I recently got a checkup done and the Chest X-Ray report had a comment : 'right CP angle not visualised' left CP angle and lung fields were clear. What does this mean? It does not say angle is un-clear or blunt, so not sure if there is any problem. Please advise.
It is best to have a second look to exactly opine what your doctor meant. However, such a comment is not serious and may not even be significant at all times if you have no active disease symptoms right now.
The costo phrenic angle or CP angle is the angle formed by the diaphragm and ribcage at the outer lower aspect of chest. There is a possibility of fluid collection to be first noticed in this region causing the angle to not be visualised. Also the membranes covering the lung might develop thickening due to advanced age or disease and this appears as blunting on CP angle on chest X ray.
A small blunting can be ignored and not a cause of worry. Blunting on the angle with visible fluid collection needs treatment. It is most likely that you do not have a serious concern and can interpret the non visualisation of right costophrenic angle as a benign finding.
